My name is Joe Walano as The Guzzi Doctor, I specialize in repairing, restoring and customizing Moto Guzzi motorcycles. I have had a long allegiance to the brand and I have spent many hours researching and learning the intricacies of this wonderful, and often, misunderstood line of bikes. My qualifications are; a degree from Southern Illinois University in Automotive Technology, over 35 years as a technician in the automotive field, including over 30 years as owner of Joe’s Four Seasons Automotive, and many hours of continuing education. I am also an ASE certified master technician.
My interest in Moto Guzzis started in the late 70s. I had traded my first bike for a 1973 V7 Sport. I knew nothing of the brand. The Sport was on consignment in an independent bike shop in the college town where I was studying. The owner of the shop allowed me to take the Guzzi for an extended road test and I was hooked. He convinced the seller to take my Norton as an even trade. Through the years I bought, rode, rebuilt, customized many bikes, including several BMWs but, my loyalty was always to Moto Guzzi, especially the Tonti framed bikes of the 1970s.
I am now using my skills to return neglected Tonti and Loop framed bikes to their previous glory and to create custom versions and tributes to rare and desirable bikes from that era. On these pages you can see examples of my work and photos of the steps I go through to produce them.
I also use my training to diagnose, repair and fine tune all models of Moto Guzzi motorcycles. I have been troubleshooting and repairing modern electronic engine management systems for many years.
